7 Sep (Sat): West Marsh Visit with the 'Kranji Marshals'

The West Marsh, within the Core Conservation Area of Kranji Marshes, is a special area designated for the conservation of marsh birds. To minimise disturbances to these shy animals and other wildlife, access to this section is restricted to guided activities organised by NParks and its partners. Several times a year, visitors can access this section when NParks volunteers (the 'Kranji Marshals') conduct station-guiding. They will be stationed at the hides and strategic locations to help you appreciate the beauty of the marsh habitat.
A loop around West Marsh is about 1.2 km and takes about 20 minutes to complete. This includes about 400 m of narrow and uneven rocky path, which is not recommended for young children without supervision. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes, and exercise caution when walking on this path.

27 Jul (Sat): Ramble "Sustainability" at MacRitchie Reservoir

for Nature Society (Singapore) members only

Completed in 1868, MacRitchie Reservoir is Singapore’s oldest reservoir. Despite parts of the surrounding forest being converted into plantation in the past, more than one square kilometre of primary forest is still standing in Central Catchment Nature Reserve today, particularly around Macritchie Reservoir. Forest trees, remnants of the plantations from the 20th century, can still be seen along the fringes of the reservoir. The Ant plant (Macaranga bancana.) and pitcher plants are common in the area. Join Pandian for a scenic ramble through this beautiful forest. The walk will end at Bukit Timah Visitor Centre.

Did you know that dragonflies are among one of the most ancient winged insects in the world?
Dragonfly
With body structures that have remain largely unchanged since the Jurassic age, these fighter jets of the insect world help to keep the population of insects in check, and are an indicator for the health of our environment. Learn how the plants and animals have adapted to this wetland habitat, discover the differences between dragonflies and damselflies, and challenge yourself to identifying the many species of ‘dragons’ and ‘damsels’ that can be found here!

25 May (Sat): Butterfly Walk at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

Open to the Public - On Site Registration Needed

With a record of close to a hundred butterfly species, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) boasts sightings of some of the rarest gems including the Influent Royal, Brown Awl, Green Baron and Great Mormon. Threatened species like the Common Birdwing and Common Rose (Singapore’s National Butterfly) breed here. Even the once thought extinct Clipper was found here in October 2017.

This walk will be a three-hour exploration of the butterfly life within the lush hospital grounds and at nearby Yishun pond.
