NUS PEACE (People Ending Animal Cruelty & Exploitation), an animal
welfare student group, has teamed up with ACRES to bring to everyone the
screening of The Cove.
We feel that the time is crucial to lend our voices in support of The World's Saddest Dolphins campaign, with this movie being ideal in helping to understand the plight of the dolphins.
ACRES will be at the event to conduct a dialogue session. This event is sure to be highly informative and enriching. ACRES will also be setting up a booth for education and to sell some merchandise for their charitable causes.

25 Sep (Sun): Birdwatching at Kranji Marshes
Yong Ding Li leads this walk. From the meeting place, a hired bus will ferry us to our destination. We begin with a pleasant stroll along a countryside road to the Kranji Marshes where we will continue our walk along the PUB bund. The marsh is designated by URA as a Nature Park and is currently adopted by NSS under the PUB's ABC Waters Programme. Birding highlights here include the Red-wattled Lapwing, Purple Swamphen, Rusty-breasted Cuckoo, White-browed Crake, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Grey-headed Fish Eagle and more.
This walk is open to the public. Registration by 20 Sep on the NSS website. Limited to a maximum of 20 persons.
Time: 7.45am to 11.00am. Meet at Kranji Dam Carpark B near the Tidal Gates of Kranji Reservoir (off Kranji Way). Reachable by Bus 925 from Kranji MRT station.

Chek Jawa is an intertidal area containing one of Singapore's richest ecosystems. A unique wetland treasure, it is only revealed and accessible during low tides. Seize this rare opportunity to learn from experienced guides about the thriving flora and fauna in this area. Please wear light casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes. Bring a hat and a water bottle. Be prepared for weather changes.
This activity is organised in conjunction with Parks Festival 2011.

25 Sep (Sun): Mangrove walk at Sungei Buloh
Free guided nature walk along the Mangrove boardwalk under shady mangrove trees. Spot mudskippers, crabs and other marine life, learn about our mangroves, enjoy views of the Johor straits. Suitable for young children.
Free Mandarin Guided walk 9.30-11.30am. Call 67941401 to book this free guided tour. A minimum of 5 participants is needed to commence the tour. Limited to maximum 15 participants.
Registration is not required for small walk-in groups. But each walk is limited to 15 persons per guide and is on a first-come -first-served basis. The walks are weather permitting and may merge with other activities at the Reserve. Those coming with large groups are advised to pre-register.

Kids! Join us for a chirpy experience at Telok Blangah Hill Park. Bring along your binoculars and you may spot some of the 43 species of birds that may be found here.This birdwatching workshop along the Forest Walk is conducted by Cicada Tree Eco Place, in conjunction with Parks Festival 2011 and is made possible by the Garden City Fund and ST Microelectronics.

Experience the sunset and the dark tranquil ambience, as dusk sets in with the nocturnal sounds of millions of cicadas and night birds greeting the night. If you are lucky you will see fireflies, small animals, luminous fungi and ferns along the forest tracks. Enjoy the stars, planets and celestial objects shining in the night sky. Estimated journey is about 5 hours (not suitable for children under 12 yrs of age).
Time: 5:30-10:30pm. Meet at bus stop at Mandai Lake Road-Mandai Orchid Gardens (now construction work in progress) Bus service Nos: 138, 926, 927
