5 Jun (Sun): Balik Chek Jawa with the Chek Jawa community

As part of Pesta Ubin, Pulau Ubin Open House. All are welcome to visit Chek Jawa! Volunteer guides will be at the boardwalk to share about Chek Jawa's amazing wildlife. From monkeys to wild boar, birds to butterflies, crabs to mudskippers, and fascinating plants of the mangroves and shores, some of which are rare elsewhere. If we are lucky we may encounter otters or even a dugong. (There will be NO activities on the seashores).

Chek Jawa is also full of history. Volunteers will share about these too. Among the heritage of Chek Jawa is House No. 1, where there will be more activities for the family!

The volunteers of the Restore Ubin Mangroves (R.U.M.) Initiative will also be at Chek Jawa to share about their exciting ground-up community effort to restore mangroves at Pulau Ubin!

This Chek Jawa Open House is brought to you by the Chek Jawa community of volunteers. They include volunteers who worked on Chek Jawa before reclamation was deferred, and current volunteers with Ubin NParks, the Naked Hermit Crabs, and the Toddycats/Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum.

4 Jun (Sat): Ubin Night Walk with Strix Wildlife Consultancy

Join this very special Pesta Ubin night walk under the umbrella of Strix Wildlife Consultancy led by Subaraj Rajathurai, the foremost nature guide in Singapore. This is a Herpetological Society of Singapore walk supported by the Vertebrate Study Group of the Nature Society (Singapore).

Snakes are beautiful and will not harm if they don't feel threatened.

Your guides are experienced and knowledgeable field naturalists, so expect amazing encounters and delightful discoveries during this night walk at Pulau Ubin. As well as fascinating stories about the history and heritage of Pulau Ubin.

Please bring along insect repellent, torch, poncho, bottle of water. Optional items if you have them, do bring along your binoculars and a camera.

Maximum 40 persons, first-come-first-served.

Date: 28 May (Sat) and 4 Jun (Sat)

Arrangements have been made for a bumboat (or two) to be available for your travel back to the mainland. They will charge about $50 per boat instead of $36 per boat. With only one or two bumboats, it may take a while to transport a large group back to the mainland. Thank you for your patience!

Let Ubin inspire the artist in you!

Meet fellow nature and wildlife art lovers to observe and sketch Pulau Ubin's landscape and diverse biodiversity. No drawing experience is necessary.

4 Jun (Sat): Butterfly Walk at MacRitchie Forest Trail

For Nature Society (Singapore) members only

Join Gan Cheong Weei to explore MacRitchie forest trail off Lornie Road. Butterflies continue to prevail here even though this is a well-used path by joggers and nature lovers. Good sightings include the Royal Assyrian, Banded Yeoman, Commander, Branded Imperial, Malayan Lascar, and Elbowed Pierrot.

4 Jun (Sat): Coastal Cleanup with Sea Shepherd at Jelutong Beach, Pulau Ubin

Get hands-on experience and help keep our shores clean during Pesta Ubin. You will learn how trash is affecting marine life, as well as how Singapore manages its trash. You will also have fun as we will be on the look out for interesting and weird finds amongst the trash!

Some of the kinds of trash that needs to be removed!

There is no age restriction but parents are to supervise their own children, especially younger ones. Anyone unwell or have medical conditions should consult their doctors first as clean-up can be physically strenuous. You are advised to drink up and hydrate as weather can be scorching. For safety, all participants have to wear covered shoes (diving booties are the best). No sandals, slippers or crocs.

How many petals are there on a flower? Count the number of leaflets on a leaf. Get introduced to addition, subtraction, and many more mathematical skills that you can apply to plants. Be a young Mathematician of the Garden in this guided tour and have fun learning about Maths and Plants.

Mangrove forests are living borders of the freshwater and salt water. Out of 73 true mangroves species worldwide, 22 can be found in Sungei Buloh.
