Prof Cliff D. Ollier gives this free public talk. Changing views of the Earth traces the development of alternative theories to explain the large scale evolution of landscape. Since the 1960s, the theory of Plate Tectonics has dominated the geological sciences. Mountain building is largely associated with uplift and folding events at plate boundaries. However, examination of the geomorphological history of landscapes reveals that many landform features can be of considerable antiquity and exhibit structural complexity. Conventional models of mountain building and relief generation can be challenged.
