A Chinese New Year Special, this approximately two and a half hour programme will highlight the changing faces of Fort Canning through the centuries.
Once the seat of Malay royalty in the 14th century, it was home to colonial governors and turned into a fort in the 19th century. In modern times, it was used as a military base during the Second World War. Now, it is a lush and tranquil public park popular and known for hosting some major festivals like WOMAD, SINGFest and most recently F1 Rocks.
Included in this walk is entry into the Battle Box, a remnant bunker from World War II. This maze-like underground complex of 26 rooms and corridors was used by the British as the nerve centre for their military operations in South East Asia. Find out the significance of 15 Feb 1942 and how the Battle Box played a part in this heartbreaking moment in Singapore's history.
Walk is moderately easy but will involve walking up slopes and steps so do come dressed comfortably.
