Birds are among the most conspicuous elements of Singapore’s biodiversity. They have been the emphasis of many recent conservation actions. This talk by Yong Ding Li will review and summarise local conservation developments from an avian perspective. Issues to be covered include the Red Data book and the conservation status of locally endangered birds, the Wild Animals and Birds Act (WABA), poaching, the importance of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, the Eco-link, hornbill projects and more. Priorities and challenges in local bird conservation will also be discussed.
