This workshop is an introduction to the butterflies of Singapore - common species, ecology, their roles and adaptations and how to share about them with ordinary folks! Find out in this brief introduction to local butterflies for nature guides.

Khew Sin Khoon, ButterflyCircle
Khew is an architect in private practice, and has been involved in a number of ecological and gardens projects with the National Parks Board, amongst these are the Masterplan of Labrador Park, Kent Ridge Park & Canopy Walk, Ginger Garden, Evolution Garden, Children's Garden, Symphony Lake at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and more recently, Gardens by the Bay.

He has been interested in butterflies from the age of ten back in Malaysia, and has kept his interest alive for the past 40 years. He has authored several articles on butterflies for several scientific journals as well as publications by NParks, Zoo and other organizations and has contributed to the butterfly section in the Singapore Red Data Book 2008. He runs a website, ButterflyCircle, which includes a comprehensive and informative blog on butterflies of Singapore.

Sin Khoon has also been a volunteer in biodiversity surveys for NParks, conducting observations and surveys on butterfly biodiversity in the Central Catchment, Western Catchment, Pulau Ubin and our urban parks. He has been involved in the creation of butterfly-friendly gardens at Alexandra Hospital, Pulau Ubin Butterfly Hill and the recently launched Butterfly Garden at Hort Park.
