The World Bank is generally thought of as an institution which lends money to governments for infrastructure, banking and of course poverty alleviation within the framework of its mission to alleviate poverty. It is less well known that it has a portfolio of biodiversity projects which amounts to some $5 billion, and that it has a team of biodiversity specialists on staff. Dr Tony Whitten, Senior Biodiversity Specialist in the East Asia and Pacific region of the World Bank will talk about what a biodiversity specialist does at the World Bank.
