7 Apr (Mon): “Carbon and Forests” Symposium at NIE

The National Institute of Education will be hosting a three-day workshop organised by the Center for Tropical Forest Science - Arnold Arboretum (CTFS-AA), Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI), on Carbon and Functional Traits in Asian Forests beginning April 7, 2008. The workshop will be led by STRI senior scientists Joe Wright, Helene Muller-Landau, and Ben Turner. It will held in conjunction with a newly crafted set of CTFS forest research initiatives, and will also establish a component of the SI-GEO (Smithsonian Institute – Global Earth Observatory) programme, a worldwide network of forest monitoring stations, in Asia.

We will be opening the three-day event with a half-day public symposium on "Carbon and Forests" on April 7th. Speakers include tropical forest scientists from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and representatives of the CTFS community. In addition, we hope to have locally-based scientists and policy makers on hand to give their views on carbon research and policy.
